GRAND RIVER SUP SWIFTWATER ADVENTURE – INTRO TO RIVER SUP
Paris, Ontario. Just 1 hour west of Toronto
This 2 to 4 hr DOWNRIVER SUP clinic/trip is designed to get your butt off the stillwater and into some flow. You'll learn as you paddle down 11km of one of the coolest and prettiest sections of the Grand River from Glen Morris to Paris on state-of-the-art river specific inflatable paddleboards. We'll take the skills you've learned for flatwater and use them in a slow moving river environment (okay, sometimes it won't seem so slow).  This section of the Grand has a few swifts (okay, rapids) that might seem like a breeze in a canoe or kayak but which take on a whole new dimension of difficulty when you're standing up. We'll introduce you to river skills including eddy turns, ferries and basic surfing while emphasizing river safety, dynamics and hazard identification/avoidance.

Notes: You will very likely get wet on this trip. Wear synthetics and bring an extra set of dry clothes.  Shoes or booties are mandatory and so is a helmet.  Because of water levels this course may only be offered in the spring, early summer, and fall.

Prerequisite: For downriver SUP you should be in adequate physical condition and be a comfortable swimmer.  Advanced Flatwater SUP course or equivalent experience is recommended.
Provided: Instruction, Boards, paddles, leashes, helmets, dry bags, PFD's, booties (size dependent), and shuttle.
Cost: $79 + HST (Group discounts available). Drysuit rental available for $25 w/ trip
Dates: Available by Request.

NITH RIVER SPRING WHITEWATER SUP ADVENTURE
Paris, Ontario. Just 1 hour west of Toronto
The Nith River is an awesome run to learn whitewater SUP paddling. Its swifts are just wild enough and unique to Southern Ontario. The 15km (2-4hr) instructional trip starts off calm and cool and then gradually speeds up and finishes with a nice stretch of exhilarating rapids just before joining the Grand River at Paris. So you’ll start in calmer moving water working on paddling skills with your instructor before charging into whitewater as your skills progress.

Instruction begins on shore with safety & paddle skills, and then moves into the river to practice techniques. We’ll introduce you to river SUP skills including, bracing, eddy turns, ferries and basic surfing while emphasizing river safety, dynamics and hazard identification/avoidance.

Get it while you can! The Nith is usually only an early spring adventure as the river relies on spring run-off and heavy rain for adequate flows.  Trips can start as early as March & run through April into mid May. Usually, the earlier you go in the season, the bigger the rapids, and the colder the water.

Notes: You will very likely go for a swim on this trip.  Wear synthetics and bring an extra set of dry clothes.  Shoes or booties are mandatory and so is a helmet (knee and elbow pads are optional). Depending on temps a wet or drysuit will be mandatory or highly recommended.

Prerequisite: This trip is wicked fun but it is not really for beginner SUP paddlers. You’ll want to be pretty comfortable moving around on a board (and falling off it) before you attempt this run.  For downriver SUP you should also be in adequate physical condition and be a comfortable swimmer. Advanced Flatwater SUP course, the Grand River Intro to River SUP, or equivalent experience is definitely a must.
Provided: Instruction, boards, paddles, leashes, helmets, dry bags, PFD’s, booties (size dependent), and shuttle.
Cost: $89 + HST (Group discounts available).  Drysuit rental available for $25 w/ trip
Dates: Available by Request. Note: Trip dates dependent on river levels. Weekend and weekday dates available for private bookings. Please contact us for pricing and availability or to get on our mailing list.  We’ll let you know when conditions are just right.

NITH RIVER SPRING WHITEWATER SUP SESSIONS
Paris, Ontario. Just 1 hour west of Toronto
Want the experience the thrill of Whitewater SUP without all that extra lazy river paddling?  We can also just hike the boards up from Paris to where the whitewater starts and do short fast 1km trips down the gnarliest section of the Nith.  Then repeat as desired.  This option is great for paddlers that have already had some SUP river running experience and want to hone their whitewater skills.

Notes: You will very likely go for a swim on this run.  If you don’t then you may well be a river surfing deity.  Wear synthetics and bring an extra set of dry clothes.  Shoes or booties are mandatory and so is a helmet (knee and elbow pads are optional). Depending on temps a wet or drysuit will be mandatory or highly recommended.

NITH RIVER SURF CLUB
Paris, Ontario. Just 1 hour west of Toronto
Want to learn how to surf without going to the ocean? Ride a wave in Southern Ontario with the Nith River Surf Club! Unbeknownst to most, certain features in our local creeks and rivers form standing waves that can be surfed on SUP’s. Plus you won’t have to worry about those pesky man-eating sharks! Watch out for the wiles of the elusive Nithian Merwoman, though.

In our two hour surf sessions you’ll learn, using specially designed river surfing SUP’s,  how to catch these waves and navigate the whitewater where they form.

BIG CREEK BACKWATER SUP EXCURSION – NORFOLK COUNTY
North Shore’s Big Creek Backwater SUP Excursion is a 2 hr instructional trip that will give you all the basic skills you need to get out and have a blast on calm lakes and lazy rivers.  You’ll learn about gear, safety, proper stance, and paddle techniques. Minimum 2 participants, maximum 6.  Buy a board and this trip is free!

Big Creek is Canada’s southern-most paddling route and has a remote “Amazon River” like jungle ambiance, minus the anacondas, piranhas and crocodiles, of course.  Sections of it also tend to be perfect for paddleboarding.  This deep, narrow, river meanders south through the Carolinian Forests of Norfolk County and features some of the most diverse and rare vegetation and wildlife found in Canada before emptying into Lake Erie at the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve.

Notes: This trip is for everyone. You might get wet (and muddy) so wear synthetics and bring an extra set of dry clothes.  Water shoes or booties are recommended.

Prerequisite: None.  If you can balance on two feet (or one) you can paddleboard.
Provided: Boards, paddles, leashes, PFD’s and shuttle.
Cost: 2 people - $75/ person +HST
3-4 people - $60/ person +HST
5-6 people - $50/ person +HST
Dates: Available by Request.line

BIG CREEK TO LONG POINT SUP ADVENTURE – ADVANCED
North Shore’s Big Creek to Long Point SUP Adventure is a 4 hr trip for more advanced paddlers looking for an extra challenge.  We’ll do an extended and more technical run down the “Amazon River” like Big Creek and into Lake Erie at Long Point’s inner bay. We’ll then make an exciting open water crossing to Long Point Provincial Park.  Depending on weather conditions we may even get in an impromptu Great Lakes surf session or downwinder.

Notes: This trip is more challenging due to the need to maneuver around and over logs and deal with open water conditions. You’ll very likely get wet on this trip.  If you don’t then you’re probably not trying hard enough.  Wear synthetics and bring an extra set of dry clothes. Water shoes or booties are recommended.

Prerequisite: Intro to SUP or equivalent experience
Provided: Boards, paddles, leashes, PFD’s and shuttle.
Cost: $95 + HST
Dates: Available by Request.line

LONG POINT MULTI DAY EXPEDITION – TRIP TO THE TIP
A SUP Expedition to the wild tip of Long Point National Wildlife Area on Lake Erie.

This is a special, exciting and exclusive opportunity.  Long Point Bird Observatory (LPBO) and Bird Studies Canada (BSC) have generously opened their doors (a crack) and will allow, by special permission, for small groups of intrepid travelers to rent their Long Point Tip Field Station Cabin.  Long Point is mostly private and protected land, so the general public has very seldom even been allowed to visit the end of the Point (much less stay there) making this truly a unique experience.   Participants can spend their days birding and enjoying the wildlife around the Tip or just relax in the remote beach setting, nestled within large sand dunes.

Long Point is the largest freshwater sand spit in the world, jutting 40km into the middle of Lake Erie, and is the most remote wilderness location in Southern Ontario.  Long Point is a World Biosphere Reserve, an International Monarch Butterfly Reserve, A RAMSAR International Wetland Reserve, and has a diverse and fantastic natural and human history.

Jonah Logan of North Shore Paddlesurf has had a few lucky opportunities to stay at the Tip and is one of the few people to have actually paddled its full length. It is a magical place full of peaceful tranquility and wild exposure.

This special expedition is still in the works so stay tuned for updates and specifics. It will likely be a 4-5 day trip and participants will want to book off extra days before and after in case of inclement weather. Minimum 2 participants, maximum 6.

Notes: This trip is not for everyone.  It will be a very long and challenging paddle out to the point (at least 30km) in possibly very adverse conditions.

Prerequisite: Previous long distance SUP touring or racing experience is preferable and suggested.
Provided: Boards, paddles, leashes, PFD’s, food, water, emergency boat support. You’re also welcome to use your own board and gear if it is suitable for the trip
Cost: TBD
Dates: Available by Request.line

Please call 519-761-1775, or email [email protected] if you’re interested in either of these unique trips, or to request more information.
